Avoid storm damages

Avoid your greenhouse looking like this.

It can be difficult for a greenhouse to survive a storm. Lars Lund from The Greenhouse Forum has collected a few tips on how to secure your greenhouse from storms in the best way possible.

  1. Make sure the door is closed completely. You can seal the door with vapour barrier tape or gaffer tape, so the wind can’t enter.
  2. Screw off the cylinder of the automatic window openers and close the window manually.
  3. Glue the glass to the profiles with silicone or a special glue. (It makes it hard to move the greenhouse, if you one day decide that)
  4. Check the struts and make sure they are where they should be.
  5. If you haven’t provided shelter with a hedge or bush, then buy a willow fence and put it up in a fitting distance around the greenhouse.

Tip:

The best way possible to secure your greenhouse is to provide shelter around it. Hedges where the wind can blow through is the best solution and a better solution than a fence. The hedge should not be placed right up against the greenhouse. A 6.6 feet tall hedge can provide shelter in a 32.8 feet distance. A fence of willow or slats is an alternative. Storms often come from north-west or south-west, so the shelter should be all around the greenhouse.
