The most prestigious garden exhibition

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is held every year in late May. The organizers are the Royal Horticultural Society, abbreviated RHS. It takes years to plan and a month to build the exhibition, and then the exhibition is open for just four days. In the four days, 160,000 people have visited the exhibition, which is Europe's, perhaps the world's most prestigious.

Well-known garden designers from home and abroad compete to win the title, Best Garden of the Year or have the honour of having a plant named the most beautiful plant. About 500 exhibitors show up with everything from garden tools, sculptures, plants, yes everything for the garden.

The gardens on display should look as if they have always been there. That's part of the concept. The show gardens are small gardens of about 970 square feet, and gardens up to a few thousand square feet. This year there were several main themes. One was to break with grey tiles and get more green into the garden "Greening Gray Britain", and there were not a lot of grey tiles

The wild gardens had made it big last year, and it is still represented, although to a lesser extent. In addition, it is especially the meaningful life, health and sustainability that has occupied the designers. The colours are blue, purple, white, pink, and rusty red, as the most consistent. The large colour palette with all colours is a thing of the past.

If you want to go to a garden exhibition in England, you can still make the Hampton Flowershow. The exhibition is definitely worth a visit, even if it is smaller than Chelsea. It takes place from the 5th-10th of July. Later there is the Tatton Park Flower Show, from July 20th-24th. For more information, visit vistitbritain.com or rhs.org.uk

In this photo series, you get a small impression of what you can see, but the best thing is of course to see it for yourself. You must be early to get tickets.
